This is a random Youtube video that was recommended in my feed.
First of all, I love cats, therefore I am biased. This animation is adorable.
However, as the comments indicate, maybe this video isn’t just about cats, which makes this more interesting. Also, the links on the info page of this channel point to a broader, more ambitious worldview: this person/group not only creates Youtube videos but also has a newsletter, a blog, and some sort of physical product subscription service.
This is kinda the future of creativity that I envision. Not exactly this combination of animation + physical product subscription + music, necessarily, but something interconnected and holistic like this. The branding here is amazing, IMO. The vibe.
Or, to be more precise, I think the future of creativity is the vividness of such holistic/interconnected possibilities. The possibilities already existed, just less expressed. As in, already, for a long time, all the great cat videos haven’t been “just” about cats. Usually, either the cat has a “character voice” or the owner has one. Or it’s about multiple cats and their relationships, etc. Similarly, there is rarely a case where it’s “just” about the animation or “just” about the music. There is a story arc or the artist’s life, etc. There are always multiple connection points, multiple intersections of different sets of categories.
The difference, nowadays, is that people with a vision can in fact create everything they have ever wanted more easily. It’s way more affordable to distribute their creations too.
More and more, I am aware that all I care about is the vision. I like how things are curated. (Again, preferably by someone who isn’t “just” a curator. Nowadays, that distinction is disappearing too anyway.)
