Yuuup yet another identity. This time, it’s not a “pen name,” because it’s not for a field that has to do with the figurative pen. But more generically, it is a pseudonym, yes.
Many things I do, I do because I cannot find what I like out of the things that I can access of what others did. I don’t think it’s because my preferences are utterly alien; I think it’s more of a discoverability issue. There has to be stuff I like that other people made, somewhere out there; it’s just difficult to find those things.
(By the way, this difficulty of finding things has existed all my life. This is not some new phenomenon that started in the 2020s or 2010s. Sometimes people talk as if “new technology” is what created the discoverability mismatch because of surplus creation–no.
When was the last time you had to wait for someone to make clothing for you? When was the last time you had to wait for someone to farm the fields and kill a cow before you could cook beef? For many people who are alive today, the answer is “never.” For the rest of the people in this part of the world, the answer is probably “decades ago,” more than 90% of the time.
Anyway, point being, supply exceeding demand is nothing new in the current world. This isn’t a new phenomenon that was birthed a mere couple of decades ago.)
So I make stuff for myself and release it into the world. I think this trend will only get stronger in the next decade. There will be those use the tools available to them to create satisfaction for themselves and others; then there will be those bitching about “competition,” as if yesterday, they had a fandom of millions, and now they don’t because Joe Schmo Blah has decided to express his freedom.
Anyway, still, it would be nice if the discoverability challenge could be solved. I do want to consume things from other people. I don’t care what tools they used; they’re still doing “the work.” If they use tools that separates “work” from “suffering,” even better. Then I’ll feel better absorbing whatever they put out there; makes me feel relieved that I won’t be absorbing suffering.
