I’ve had two K6 models for about 5 years now. Back when I got them, I was using two desks on two different floors sometimes, so that’s why I got two keyboards. Didn’t wanna carry around a keyboard back and forth.
After that period, however, I ended up mostly using only one of the two keyboards. One has red switches and the other has brown switches; I got the one with the reds first (fully 5 years ago), but I like the one with the browns better (got this one more than 4.5 years ago). So I’ve been using the one with the browns daily, like, literally daily, for about 5 years. That’s the one that’s dying now. The brown one. It traveled with me to different continents and never failed me, but now it’s dying.
It seems to be a battery issue. It gets drained faster. Apparently, 5 years isn’t that bad for a keyboard battery. I never use the backlight thingy, which is why it might have lasted longer.
Right now, I’m typing on the red switch keyboard and it feels way too smooth. There is no resistance at all. 😭 I want some communication with my keyboard. This red thingy doesn’t talk back.
But I will probably just use this red one for now, because I am so not into getting new stuff anymore. This is especially the case with objects that I don’t want to throw away. The brown switch keyboard that’s dying, for example, will not be thrown away. One day, if I ever live in an environment where I display objects, I will get a case for it or something. It’ll be displayed as The Keyboard That Went Everywhere With Me For Five Years.
Meanwhile, this red one… I will eventually get used to the red one simply because I don’t want to get a new keyboard. I also do not want to get a new battery and replace it on the brown one. RIP brown one.
