I’ve been using the term “vertex” for a long time to evoke the image of the tip, the pinnacle (but less dramatic). More poetically, the vertex is the North Star.
Anyway, with all the things going on in my life right now, I am rediscovering the value of the vertex. Getting buried in the details can be stressful; emerging from the details and looking at the sky is relaxing.
These days, there is no sense of “Must get there. How do I try harder?” It’s more like… I mean, the North Star is there. It’s not going anywhere. So I can rest in the North Star.
The best part is that, in real life, you actually arrive at the (symbolic) North Star when you have the North Star in mind. It’s not just using it as the guiding light but not actually getting there; you actually get there. Somehow, that certainty has become more solid in my being recently.
