For some reason, this surprises me. Well, I guess it’s something I’ve been procrastinating on for such a long time, and now that I’m finally doing it, I’m surprised that I’m enjoying it. I don’t know why I’ve been dreading it so much. It’s quite simple. It’s just all so logical, especially compared to social media.
With social media, supposedly you “follow” someone and yet you don’t even get all their updates automatically in your feed. I don’t understand how that doesn’t count as fraud. Like, I said I want to follow this person, and you created a button that says “follow,” yet you’re not showing me what they’re doing? Organic reach on Instagram, Facebook, and X are lower than 3%, I hear.
About the only social media that actually shows you all the things you want to follow is Youtube. Perhaps that is why on Youtube, there are many videos talking about “getting off social media.” These people are on social media, but Youtube is genuine (at least in this aspect, of showing content you subscribe to), therefore it’s almost as if it isn’t even social media. Surely, if it’s social media, it must hide subscribed content from my view! If it does no such thing, it must not be social media!
Anyway, back to newsletters. It’s so beautifully logical! I mean, I knew this in my head, but it FEELS so logical, and that’s so pleasant. That’s what’s surprising to me.
Maybe this has to do with me not being so afraid of money anymore. Newsletter building requires a budget. It is not free. (Which is why people, including me, deal with the nonsense of social media platforms telling them they can “follow” people. “Follow” my ass. But it’s free. So.)
With newsletters, people click subscribe, and so long as they don’t unsubscribe, they… actually… get my letters? What? Is that for real? 😂
